A custom hand-designed birthday card for my dad's 50th, built around a Disneyland trip and a love of peanut brittle.
For my dad's 50th birthday, my family was planned on heading up to Disneyland together, so I wanted to make a birthday card that felt tied to the trip and the milestone. My goal was to create a card that felt personal and handcrafted and something he would actually keep, rather than just setting it aside once his birthday was over.
A birthday card should feel like it couldn't have been made for anyone else.
The front of the card features the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle, which I traced in Adobe Illustrator, so it would be immediately recognizable. Surrounding the castle are some fireworks with one showcasing the number 50 in the center, which helped tie the celebration directly to the theme. The navy and gold color palette gives it a classic, elegant feel that still feels festive.
On the inside, I added a message that says: "Hope today is anything but brittle unless it's the peanut kind." Which is a nod to his love of Disneyland's peanut brittle, which he always looks forward to on every visit. The back of the card displays a clean silhouette of the castle and fireworks from the back side, keeping the Disneyland theme throughout the card.
