A fundraiser flyer for the Mira Mesa Marauders football team, built around their school identity to promote a car wash event supporting their Hawaii trip.
The Mira Mesa High School football team was heading to Hawaii and needed to raise funds to make the trip happen. Their plan was a car wash, and they needed a flyer that could spread the word quickly and clearly. The direction was simple, make it look and feel like it belonged to the school and the team, and make sure people knew exactly where to show up and how much to bring.
"The school's identity had to do the heavy lifting. If it looked like a Marauders piece, people would stop and pay attention."
The initial design leaned into the school's colors and bold typography, putting the event details front and center. From there, the flyer went through three rounds of client revisions before landing on the final version.
The client wanted the header updated to read "Marauders" instead of "Mira Mesa," leaning into the team identity rather than the school name. The Marauders logo was also added to anchor the top of the design.
A "Sponsored By" section was requested to acknowledge the business backing the event. This meant restructuring the lower portion of the layout to give the sponsor proper visibility without crowding the key event details.
The sponsor's logo needed to be placed in the flyer, but they only had a white raster file with no vector version available. The logo was color-inverted, image-traced, and then recolored to the client's specifications before being incorporated into the final design.
Every project involves give and take between a designer's instincts and a client's vision. I shared my perspective on some of the choices along the way, but ultimately the client knew what would resonate with their community. In the end, the revisions were exactly what they were looking for, and the flyer was used across social media to get supporters hyped up and aware of the event.
